A group that harnesses the frantic energy of the modern punk string band, yet still remains respectfully rooted in the tradition of Bill Monroe. Imagine a band with one foot proudly planted in the path of traditional bluegrass, and one foot stepping out into the unknown forefront of American string music.

This is Town Mountain, the exciting new sound from Asheville, NC. Born out of the all night jam sessions and fertile picking scene of Western North Carolina, Town Mountain has emerged as one of the premiere young American bluegrass bands. Great original songwriting, tight vocal harmonies, a charismatic stage presence, and instrumental expertise place this group in the upper tier of contemporary acoustic bands. But, in the end, despite these qualities, it’s always the undeniable, irresistible energy of a live Town Mountain show that truly sets this group apart.

Jeff Mosier understands the importance of occasionally re-inventing oneself. Especially when you’ve turned 50 years old, and are suddenly aware that time has become far more precious. “Some people are threatened by starting over,” he says. “Me, I love it. I really do.”
In late 2009, Mosier decided to put Blueground Undergrass — the band he had fronted for more than a decade — on hiatus. That group recorded four albums and built a sizeable following by combining bluegrass purism with a jam band sensibility. Mosier liked to describe the sound as “psychedelic hick-hop.”
Ultimately, he began to realize he’d grown weary of playing loud music in bars; it overwhelmed the content of the words he sang every night. “We used to call that band a ‘wall of twang,’ and it was a lot of fun,” he says. “Now it’s a different time. I think people really want to hear ‘songs’ right now. I want to be held accountable for the lyrical content.”
That’s what led to the formation of THE MOSIER BROTHERS, a band fronted by three of the core players of Blueground Undergrass: Jeff Mosier on banjo and vocals, Johnny Mosier on guitar and background vocals, and David Blackmon on fiddle.

Bluebilly Grit draws its inspiration and drive from all genres of music. You’ll hear lots of original tunes with their own unique style and sound, along with some traditional songs from artist like Bill Monroe or the Dillards, Johnny Cash, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, and even some Alanis Morissette, all done BlueBilly style of course. Each member of the band has their own musical background with many performances under their belt. This past year was spent playing venues in the southeast, gaining momentum, and getting some studio work done. Their new CD, “Ready For A Change” was realeased in August of 2011 and “Mill Grinder’s Blues”, was released on November 14th, 2009. Mark Garrison plays banjo, guitar, and mandolin, Shawn Hart plays the flattop, and Amber Hollis has a voice that…well, you just have to hear it. Patrick Chisolm, the newest member of the band, is from Dahlonega, Ga. and has spent the past several years playing fiddle with some of the finest musicians in the area. He has developed his own unique style which completes the sound that makes BlueBilly Grit the high-energy band that it is. Mark, Amber, and Shawn also have that three part harmony that makes bluegrass what it is and will leave you with a new and fresh appreciation for a style of music that’s as old as the hills from which it came.

As is the case with rising star Angel Snow, whose music is the truest and most honest reflection of her life. Her story plays out in self-penned songs, where detail by detail she lets the listener in on her innermost thoughts, hopes, and dreams.

Sometimes sorrowful, often hopeful, and always looking toward faith, Snow’s music is nothing if not sincere. Combine this honesty with sweeping folk melodies and bluesy guitar riffs, and the result is the captivating landscape of sound found on her new self-titled album.

Fate and faithful perseverance have brought Snow to the present, as she prepares to release her second full-length set. With a major boost from acclaimed star Alison Krauss, Snow’s lifelong dreams are coming to fruition. Krauss and Union Station recorded three songs written by Snow for the deluxe edition of the band’s latest album.

The Asheville, N.C. based trio is led by Eleanor Underhill, an accomplished lyricist and banjo picker with an alluring, smoky voice and Molly Rose, the powerful songstress with a soaring vocal range and dazzling stage presence. The addition of bass player Salley Williamson produces an impressive third harmony to this lovely trinity. Their unmatched sound is captured on their self-titled, debut CD.

Molly and Eleanor’s strong musical partnership began as front-women for the Barrel House Mamas and they continue to rise to the top of the southern music scene. Since forming in 2009, Underhill Rose has shared the stage with the likes of singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale, Blackberry Smoke, Col. Bruce Hampton, Larry Keel, and the Everyone Orchestra featuring Jon Fishman and Papa Mali. The ladies have also earned a coveted showcase performance at the famed Grove Park Inn. Their fresh sound, visually appealing performances and an extraordinary ability to blend a multitude of musical genres makes Underhill Rose a desirable addition to festivals, theaters, and listening rooms across the country.

L Shape Lot was announced as the Winner of the Floydfest Under the Radar Series for 2011! Our deepest heart-felt thanks goes out to all those who took the time to vote for us at the festival! We certainly could not have done it without the tireless help of our street team that accompanied us to spread the word. A nice prize package goes along with the win, but the greatest prize of all will be a performance on the Dreaming Creek Main Stage at Floydfest XI, so please mark your calendars for July/August 2012 and join us in Floyd, Virginia for what is sure to be one of our most anticipated events of the coming year.

Their unique arrangements of tunes along with their vocal harmony precision make them stand out from the average bluegrass band.

Meg Monroe (lead and harmony vocals) is a native of Burlington, North Carolina. She is a multi-talented vocalist who can sing anything from bluegrass and country to pop and jazz. Her diverse taste in many musical genres brings a true creative spark to the Gravel Road Acoustic Trio. Before moving to Charleston, she lived and worked in New York City. While she was making her way through the musical theatre world, she appeared on MTV’s “Legally Blond” reality series. She has music degrees from both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Columbia University. You can also catch Meg in episodes of Lifetime’s “Army Wives.”

Derek Deakins (guitar and vocals) is a multi-instrumentalist who plays fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. Originally from East Tennessee, Derek grew up playing bluegrass and country music. After graduating from high school, Derek moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he landed his first professional job playing with James Monroe, son of Bill Monroe, the father of bluegrass music. He also played fiddle with bluegrass legends and Grand Ole Opry stars The Osborne Brothers for three years. Most recently, you may have seen Derek playing on the road with country music superstar Blake Shelton. Derek has a music degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Lisa Manning Deakins (fiddle and vocals) has been playing the fiddle since she was four years old. Originally from Burlington, North Carolina, Lisa moved to Nashville after graduating from high school to further her career as a musician. While in college at Belmont University, Lisa began playing the fiddle and singing with country music superstar Pam Tillis. After graduating in 2006 with a degree in music, Lisa went on to play with Grand Ole Opry star Whisperin’ Bill Anderson. Her television appearances include Grand Ole Opry Live and the Crook and Chase Show, and she has won an International Bluegrass Music Association award for album of the year with the Daughters of Bluegrass for her contributions to the CD “Bluegrass Bouquet.” Visit Lisa’s website for more of her music!
